"The middle of the page, there are two hands shaking. This represents a bond, friendship, agreement and even gratitude. In my art piece, I drew these two hands to represent the two themes to come together. The hand holding the gun indicates terrorism and fear. The jail at the top of the page  shows how some refugees are imprisoned unjustly. The words ‘run’ and ‘escape’ are quite strong words, conveying how serious the forced  migration situation is. The two boats, both packed with people portray their desperation  to flee from their country with a hope of safety. In the midst of the artwork, the words ‘EDUCATION’ and ‘SCHOOL’ give importance to the fact that refugees need to be educated like everyone else.

Title: "Tears of a Refugee"

MEDIUM: Paper cutting

Not up for auction.

"Every year, hundreds of refugees are forced to flee their home countries due to violence or persecution in hopes of a better life for themselves and their families. It is this sacrifice and hope that I hoped to capture through my artwork, with the mother's tears creating a river on which her family can travel towards a brighter life. The storks, birds that are typically used to represent a new life and rebirth, are also known as migratory birds that fly between Europe and Africa. I hope that my artwork can be seen as a representation of the devotion of a refugee to their family's well being, and a beacon of hope for freedom."

Title: "The Ideal Cycle of Refugees"

MEDIUM: Pencil and Marker

"My artistic intention of the piece is to make people understand what refugees are experiencing and show them the most ideal cycle for refugees. Refugees are forced to leave their country because of war, natural disaster, etc. Even though they were living in a completely new environment, they experienced privation and destitution but they never gave up. That’s why I wanted to show their beauty and strength by introducing the story of most refugees."

Title: "Trapped"

MEDIUM: Pencil and Watercolour

"I wanted to create this piece, because I wanted to communicate the terrors refugees go through, and I also wanted to show case the different scenarios they could be in. I created a young girl who has both her arms amputated, holding on to a young child who also is an amputee, as his leg is cut off. He also has a eye and head injury, as this was to communicate the different struggles refugees go through. There is also a little girl collapsed over building ruins hold on to a teddy bear, I wanted to show how young so many child refugees are but also to show the destruction happening around them."

Title: "One Leap"

MEDIUM: Pencil and Ink

"My artistic intention is to share the long journey taken by refugees to escape un-describable stuff like wars, bombings and mass murders. Under all the stress, pressure, anger, sadness and all they have given up. Refugees are still able to let go and move on, seeking a better life. And with art, I was able to use everything I learnt about refugees during the past 4 years to make something that can connect us with them, our felling and theirs."

"I made this artwork to represent the hardships of the refugees, but also the people who pray for them and want to help. It shows the children being driven away from their home and people trying to save them. The butterflies and the candle represent the souls who died trying to cross to a better world and the two childrens symbolize their fears, pain, and how only a few of them manage to survive. The hands and the messages on it stand for the people willing to help and how our behavior should be towards them."

MEDIUM: Digital

"I wanted to create an artwork which reflects the downsides to refugees. Moreover, I wanted to capture how painful and terrifying the process is so that I can spread awareness on how it is harmful and destructive towards the refugees and people who are fleeing the country to free themselves from political turmoil and civil warfare. This artwork will be created online due to my lack of resources (colour) as colour is important to capture the full experience and vision that refugees have and go through."

_Illumination of Hope_.jpeg

AUCTION NUMBER 17

CURRENT BID (BID AT LEAST $10 HIGHER) : $160

TITLE: "Illumination of Hope"

MEDIUM: Watercolour

"The artwork “Illumination of hope” displays a ray of light from a lighthouse guiding the path of a refugee boat towards utopia. In this piece, the presence of the lighthouse is a symbolism for all the countries on earth, and the light it emits represents the need for nations to unite in order to help global refugees. The gradual illumination of darkness conveys the positive impact as a result of united efforts. Overall, expressing that there is a hopeful future for refugees if we, as nations, show collective support and efforts to guide them out of the “dark"."

TITLE: "The Climb to Hope"

MEDIUM: Digital

"My artwork shows the  treacherous journey that refugees have to undertake in order to simply leave their country to seek a better life in another area. The key statement in the artwork is that the climb to the light, not everyone who makes it to the top and reaches hope, even after sacrificing everything in their possession, this is shown by the pickup truck and the crates stacked on the tank. Even after giving everything they’ve got some refugees won't make the journey as shown as the adult falling off the cliff and leaving the child hanging with no support."

TITLE: "Union in Diversity"

MEDIUM: Acrylic

Up for auction.

"In my artwork, my main concept was that no matter the race, age, gender, or demographic of a refugee, we’re all human at the core. When I think of refugees, I often ponder about the racism and discrimination that they may face in the country they seek refuge in. Hence, with my artwork, I’ve painted a range of people with different cultural and racial backgrounds, in hopes of promoting acceptance towards refugees. All in all, this piece encourages the idea of unity despite demographic diversity."

AUCTION NUMBER 20

CURRENT BID : (BID AT LEAST $10 HIGHER) : $100

TITLE: "UNITRI"

MEDIUM: Digital

"The main theme of the artwork “UNITRI” is triangles, the aim is to present the situation that refugees are currently in, and what they could achieve if they unite and work together. The main refraction triangle is a representation of unity, as the colours on the left unite to create a strong beam of light on the right. The boats and tents have been brightly coloured on the left, whereas the vehicles and apartment windows have been brightly coloured on the right, this is to show the difference in living conditions between both sides."

TITLE: "Bringing of Hope"

MEDIUM: Acrylic

"This piece named “Bringing of Hope” symbolizes a bright future for refugees in Hong Kong. Oftenly, the ideology of refugees in Hong kong are characterized as “negative” however my intention was not to feel pity for refugees, instead portraying an opposing perspective of refugees. This portrait portrays a young girl named Adara who is a refugee in Hong Kong, she is smiling happily in the background, paired with the gold background that symbolizes hope, love, compassion and passion."

"Instead of directly and literally depicting refugees, I wanted to highlight the values of resilience and strength that they embody, and focus on their perseverance rather than pain. Thus, I chose to digitally paint a stalk of the gladiolus flower, which symbolises strength and integrity. Named after the Latin for sword for its long, pointed shape, but also coming across delicate and elegant, I wanted to convey both the struggles and tenacity of refugees; something as admirable and worthy of appreciation as the beautiful gladiolus flower."

"My artistic intention is to raise awareness to people around me by telling them about the things that refugees have experienced ( living in awful places, dying young, mentally affected and lack of daily necessities as shown in my artwork). I hope to communicate the message of helping and supporting refugees through my artwork. I drew a flower at the bottom left corner of my painting, to show that we are refugees’ only hope."
